Winona to Engage in Vulcan Death Grip
Winona Ryder has finally landed a role! 2002 saw in her Mr Deeds, and then she took a long, well, very long break from acting, only to have resurfaced in the recent Darwin Awards. And was it a coincidence that 2002 also found her guilty of charges relating to vandalism and grand theft in connection to shoplifting at a Beverly Hills department store? Could this be the reason for the long reprise?
Well they say time heals all wounds. And I suppose the public is ready to forgive and forget. Or at least JJ Abrams is ready to give her a chance to play Young Spock’s vulcan mother in the upcoming Star Trek movie. The remake is set for a Christmas 2008 release.
Zachary Quinto is set to play Spock, with Leonard Nimoy, Eric Bana, Chris Pine, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, John Cho and Bruce Greenwood rounding out the rest of the cast.
Now I may be off by a number or two, but I believe there have been 16 Star Trek movies. This isn’t like Star Wars where there were three, and then they made an additional three, and there was so much fanfare that it was an historic event. But sixteen Star Trek movies already in the can? I suppose we are in great need of one more. Important things must have happened in the early days at the Starfleet Academy leading to William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy’s endless journey through the cosmos. Did young Nimoy lose his best friend in a flying accident, a la Tom Cruise? Or did young Shatner have a mad love affair with one of his instructors, a la Tom Cruise? Did Nimoy and Shatner play topless male on male sweaty volleyball, a la Tom Cruise? Did Shatner and Nimoy engage in a rather gay barroom duet of “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling,” a la Tom Cruise?
I’m of the opinion that Mr T should make a comeback. We all love Mr T. Maybe he doesn’t have to star in a film. Maybe he can just start with commercials. Like JC Penny. He can start by selling gold chains.
