What in the world would we be focusing on in the news these days if Heath Ledger hadn’t tragically died January 22 in his Brooklyn apartment?

Something even more lame, like Mischa Barton returning from the Sundance Film Festival with Guitar Hero for the Nintendo Wii tucked lovingly under her arm?

The media is obviously in a frenzy right now to try to dig up as much stink as they can connected to Heath’s death.

For instance, the masseuse, Diane Lee Wolozin, is now under fire for not having a license to practice in New York and potentially faces a felony charge.

Mary Kate Ashley, first to be called by the masseuse when Heath was discovered naked and dead in his Brooklyn apartment, is being scrutinized for partying like crazy in the aftermath of his death. Rumors have circulated that she had a fling with him in the past, but was dancing and making out with random guys, calling Heath a “friend” in a brief statement released last Friday, according to the Daily News.

And where was Colonel Mustard with the Candlestick…?

Naomi Campbell’s former personal assistant, Rebecca White, says Ledger routinely went on cocaine and ecstasy binges with Campbell. The Sun reports:

“When I was working for Naomi I saw Heath do drugs a few times. He was new on the scene but everybody was hailing him as the new It Boy actor. “We had been hanging in Naomi’s bungalow at the BelAir Hotel. Heath asked Naomi if she had any cocaine - I used to carry it around for her - and I remember giving him the packet and he went off, back and forth throughout the night.” Rebecca said she bought Ledger cocaine a few days later. “Each time I got an eight ball - four-and-a-half grams. The second time he came up all three of us spent a night doing coke in her bungalow. It was quite decadent. We were there for five or six hours.”

And…? What makes any of this important in view of the fact that this man is now just plain dead?

According to reports, no illicit drugs were found in Heath’s apartment. Following an inconclusive autopsy, he may have possibly died from possible natural causes, TMZ is reporting.

I did find it interesting that Busy Phillips of “Dawson’s Creek” fame who shared the success of that series with Michelle Williams - also the godmother to Heath’s daughter with Michelle - rushed immediately to her side when the news broke.

Where, I wonder, was Katie Holmes Cruise, an instrumental counterpart in the Dawson’s Creek trio - Michelle, Busy and Katie - during this tragic event?

I guess you’d have to be a die-hard Scientologist to decipher the answer to that.
